Support Alternative Breaks

The Alternative Breaks (ABs) are immersive, weekend or week-long service and learning experiences led by Northeastern student leaders. Northeastern students and a staff/faculty member volunteer with community organizations—in the U.S. and around the world—that address critical social issues, such as affordable housing, environmental conservation, youth education, and sustainable agriculture. Through meaningful action, reflection, and education, our participants explore new places and cultures, work with people from different communities, and build problem-solving and leadership skills for the future.

Partner with us

We seek collaboration from staff/faculty in several ways. Read on to find out how you can partner with us.

University Representatives  (UReps)

  • Staff or faculty members of Northeastern University.
  • Largely participate as regular program participants, allowing the students leaders to lead the trips.
  • Are available to provide encouragement and support to Team Leaders.
  • Support the Team Leaders in any emergency situations.
  • Are often asked to be van drivers for domestic trips and handle purchases using a university procurement card.
  • For more information about serving as a URep on one of the Alternative Spring Breaks or Alternative Weekends trips, please contact Erin Curley (e.curley@northeastern.edu

New Community Partnerships

If you know of any nonprofit organizations actively seeking student volunteer groups across the US or Central/South America, please reach out to us. We actively seek new partnership organizations with the capacity to host student groups for 2-6 day service experiences.

Support our Alternative Breaks Scholarship Fund

CSCE hopes to make Alternative Breaks trips accessible to all students, regardless of their financial ability to contribute. Please make a contribution to allow a Northeastern student to participate at either a reduced cost or for free.
